I don’t want to change nameservers. Are there any other ways to point my domain to your servers?

Yes, there are two possible ways to point your domain to our servers without changing the nameservers - either by updating the A record or by modifying the hosts file on your computer.

If you point the domain via an A record, the website changes will be visible globally, and if you modify the hosts file, your local computer only will see updates you do to your website.

   1. Changing A record

Before proceeding, make sure you have the correct IP address on hand to point your domain to.

A record is to be configured on the side of your domain DNS provider.

If your domain is *registered with us* and uses our BasicDNS, PremiumDNS or FreeDNS systems, follow the instructions below:

   - Sign into your NityGity account
   - Mouse over the Account option in the upper right corner of the page and choose Domain List or choose the Domain List menu in the left sidebar:


   - Click on the Manage option in front of the domain name you wish to set the A (address) record for

   - Go to Advanced DNS and use Add New Record option to add two records (or modify the existing records by clicking the values of the records):

Type A | Host @ | IP Address IP for your cPanel account | TTL Automatic
Type CNAME | Host www | Target yourdomain.com | TTL Automatic

Click the checkmark iconsto save the records:

Normally, the A record update may take up to 30 minutes.

Do not forget to clear the cache of your browser before checking the website on the new server.

   2. Modifying the hosts file

Modifying the hosts file does not actually change your domain's DNS zone, which means that all your visitors will continue to see the website from your old server.

This method comes in handy if you want to work on your website before making it go live.

You will not need to wait for the DNS propagation to pass in this case, clearing the browser's and DNS resolver's caches will do.
